The free Wi-Fi perk does not give you unlimited internet access for the entire cruise. Instead, you get a number of free minutes, depending on the length of your sailing. Some tours also stop at Museu Picasso, which features early works by Pablo Picasso, in the city's Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic). It's not difficult to imagine life in ancient times while exploring the remarkable ruins of Pompeii, the ancient Roman city buried by ash from Mount Vesuvius in the year 79. The ruins — the forum, baths, temples and decorated villas — appear frozen in time. Your tour may also include a stop at the Archeological Museum of Heraklion, which houses Minoan artifacts removed from the palace site.
How do shore excursions work on cruises?
For a shoulder season visit to Santorini I would also venture a DIY to Oia but not when multiple ships in port and major crowding. Shore excursions are designed for all activitiy levels in almost any mainstream cruise destination. Active tours can include water sports, ziplining, hiking, biking, dog-sledding and more. Activity-based trips might feature a day at the spa or beach, a pleasure cruise on a sailboat, wine or food tasting, a cultural performance or a visit to a museum. Sightseeing excursions are typically bus tours that take passengers to the highlights and shopping areas of the port city or nearby destinations.

Do you have to do shore excursions on a cruise?

Saw some beautiful mountain towns and also some newer seaside towns. The winding hills and hairpin turns are a bit unnerving - it’s a showdown coming down the mountain on a large bus with other busses trying to go up the mountains. If you’re ok with your bus driver backing up the hills around hairpin turns with about an inch clearance then I’d say definitely go for this tour. The jaw dropping beauty and that classic feel of Italy here. Of course anything we ate this day was the best ever.
What is a cruise shore excursion?
The exact charge for these taxes and fees varies based on the cruise length and itinerary but can be over $200 per person on some seven-day voyages. If you want to explore Florence, look for cruises calling in Livorno, Italy, or another port in Tuscany. From there, you'll take a bus ride into the city, known for its Renaissance treasures. The city itself is a visual treat; a shore excursion will assure that you see such key sights as Michelangelo's David, in all his polished marble naked glory (at the tickets-required Accademia Gallery). Your tour will also show off other sites throughout the city, including the ruins of the Temple of Zeus and Hadrian's Arch, Greece's impressive Parliament building and the Olympic Stadium. You'll have opportunity to dine on Greek cuisine (lunch is included in full-day tours) and shop for souvenirs on the narrow ancient streets of the lively Platka neighborhood.

The scene inspired Heald to express safety concerns about the elaborate set-up in a post on his Facebook page. The drink packages extend to Norwegian Cruise Line's private island in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay. They do not extend to the line's private destination in Belize, Harvest Caye. A favorite of those who love to explore ancient history, Ephesus is one of the most fascinating and best-preserved ancient cities in the world (and only a short drive from the Turkish resort town of Kusadasi). You can take a shuttle from the pier and tour Old Town Dubrovnik on your own, but if you are a fan of "Game of Thrones," the must-do is a guided tour that highlights sights that appeared on the HBO TV show. As fans know, Dubrovnik doubled for King's Landing, the fictional capital of the Seven Kingdoms.
Wherever you dock in Crete, in the Greek islands, you'll want to visit the ancient Minoan palace of Knossos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates to the Bronze Age. 99% of the time I am cruising solo so I only take NCL excursions because I don't feel comfortable jumping in a taxi alone. The majority of the reviews that I have done over the years are no longer on the NCL website.
Free shore excursions
Having spent quite a bit of time in Florence and Pisa in the past, and that it was pouring rain, we took the bus into Livorno, got some supplies, and went back to the ship. I’ve read complaints on this charge but in all reality the bus ride to the city of Livorno is quite a distance so the charge to me seems justified. We had fun exploring the island and after the tour he volunteered to take us to the walled city.
Food For Any Taste. At Any Time.
There was a grocery store right around the corner from our hotel with yummy stuff and great restaurants everywhere. We had a fantastic time there with each meal better than the last. Check out the ports of call you are visiting here on CC you will get more info than you will ever find on NCL's web site.
It’s pretty freeing to vacation without big luggage. Ncl gave us free laundry for lattitude perk and we took full advantage. Our Latitude Free laundry bags came back day after we turned in both times. I can’t say it came back with a tide fresh scent or anything but it is the job and I can’t complain. We really did enjoy coming back to this after long days.
You can skip the hassle of arranging your own onshore activities, you'll know the tour provider has been vetted by the cruise line and is licensed and reputable. The ship also won't leave until all of its tour buses have returned -- even the tardy ones. And you might meet shipmates whose company you'll enjoy back on the ship. In this case, all three sailings will not offer Diamond- and Platinum-level guests priority embarkation and debarkation, including at the beginning and end of the sailing and at all port calls.
Finally, some ports are simply wonderful to walk around, popping into shops and local restaurants or bars, going where you will. I've skipped tours in places like Key West, Florida; Tallinn, Estonia; Monaco; Nassau, Bahamas; Skagway, Alaska; Geiranger, Norway; and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Some shore excursions are targeted at families or can easily accommodate children. Some can accommodate passengers with mobility issues or other disabilities. Others may require a minimum level of fitness and are not suitable for everyone. There are instances when you might be limited to excursions provided by the ship.
By the time we embarked on the ship the jet lag was gone and we were able to take full advantage of the ship and tighter schedule of touring. I know many would prefer not to spend the extra $ on a Haven for these port intensive sailings but husband and I really enjoy the quiet and typically empty area of the Haven to return to after long days. For the prices ncl charges we could do just about any land or sea vacation. I think ncl knows they are pushing the limits on what they charge for their Haven on some of these Europe sailings so in return they try to deliver a product worth the cost. I enjoy the specialty venues over the inclusive venues so I purchased an additional specialty package to supplement the FAS perk and latitudes free diners.
